Ken Shepherd

Ken Shepherd

Westport Island, Maine

Ken began turning wood using what he refers to as the “poke and hope” method at his grandfather’s knee. After he joined the Maine Woodturners chapter of the American Association of Woodturners he began to see that there were systematic methods and procedures for turning and a lot of active proficient turners happy to share their knowledge.

He enjoys the challenge of turning a wide variety of artistic and functional pieces, usually from local woods, most harvested on his waterfront property. He is something of an expert in the technical aspects of turning. This is very valuable in his role as an instructor.

His technical expertise, which stems from a lifetime of tinkering and a career in electronics, is just one of the reasons he is the Woodturning School’s Studio Manager.

Ken is the current Vice President of the Maine Woodturners and a member of the American Association of Woodturners.
